Sharm El-Sheikh Museum is the first Egyptian museum of antiquities in Sharm El-Sheikh, which is world-famous for its beach tourism, where the sun and the sea are. And to be a cultural and civilizational radiance centre and a meeting place for human civilizations, and a tangible addition to the promising tourism in the city, in line with the Ministry's plan to integrate leisure and cultural tourism, so that the visitors and tourists can enjoy the picturesque beaches and enjoyable marine and land activities in the city and at the same time get to know the ancient Egyptian civilization. The idea of ​​establishing the museum dates back to 1999 AD, and it is located on an area of ​​191 thousand square meters work began on the project in 2003 AD, then stopped in 2011 AD, to be resumed again in 2018, for 812 million pounds and the museum includes three halls for museum display, in addition To an entertainment area that includes several restaurants, bazaars, traditional crafts shops, an open theatre and squares for celebrations and events.

The museum display scenario of Sharm El-Sheikh Museum deals with the emergence and development of Egyptian civilization, as well as sheds light on the Egyptian man and his behaviour towards the environment around him, and how to coexist with its creatures that he sanctified, as the museum displays 5,200 selected artefacts, carefully selected from the museum stores of El Manial Palace, Kom Ushim, Saqqara and museums Suez, Ismailia, Greco-Roman in Alexandria and the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, as well as the stores of Luxor and Ashmounin in Minya and others, to be displayed inside the museum's various halls, which are the Great Hall, the Hathorn Corridor, and the cemetery area, or in the external display area.

The Great Hall expresses man and wildlife in ancient Egypt, by displaying several paintings representing the Egyptian family in different historical stages. It also includes a group of statues of the Sphinx that represent the animal body with human beings, and a statue of a man next to his young daughter, in addition to several sacred animals In ancient Egypt, such as cats and scarabs of different shapes and sizes, which were discovered in 2019 in the Saqqara antiquities area. As for the Hathorn Corridor, it was called this name due to the presence of a large number of pieces belonging to the god Hathor, along with some statues of the kings of Thutmose I, Hatshepsut and Nakhtenabo, Ramses II, and Ramses III, in which a simulation of a complete archaeological tomb with all its details and the funeral furniture it contains is also presented.

One of the most important artefacts in the museum is a rare piece of mosaic from Alexandria dating back to the fourth century BC, and a statue of the god "Eros" hunting deer, which is displayed at the entrance to the museum, and another rare statue of God "Bes" of incomplete burning mud is displayed inside the Great Hall. In addition, the pieces that have been discovered recently in some archaeological sites for the first time, thus enriching the museum's display system. The museum also displays, exceptionally, 10 artefacts from the treasures of King Tutankhamun, before displaying them in the Grand Egyptian Museum, and the (Ka) consort statue of King Tutankhamun, covered with black resin and wearing a mongoose on his head, was chosen to be the main piece in the exhibition, which is an element. It attracts visitors to the city to see part of the treasures of the young king for the first time and the museum has a special visit path for people with special needs.

Museum opening hours


In line with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities policy to integrate coastal and cultural tourism; It was decided to open the museum on all days of the week for two periods, one in the morning, starting from 10 in the morning until 1 in the evening, and the other in the evening, starting from 5 in the evening until 11 in the evening, as these dates will provide an opportunity for tourists to enjoy the picturesque beaches of the city and practice fun water sports in the morning, and visit the museum At night to get to know the ancient Egyptian civilization.
